You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting us at craig@brightwestholiday.ca. Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide certain services to you.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to improve functionality, analyze traffic, and deliver relevant marketing. Specifically, we use:
6.1 Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager is the tool that loads the analytics and advertising tags described below. It does not itself build a profile of you, but it does make a request to Google each time a page loads, which shares your IP address and browser details with Google.
6.2 Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors interact with our website. Google Analytics collects anonymized data including pages visited, time on site, device type, and approximate location. IP addresses are anonymized where supported.

6.3 Google Ads and Conversion Tracking
Where we advertise on Google, we use Google Ads conversion tracking, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which ads lead to an enquiry or a phone call. This helps us measure ad performance and optimize campaigns.

Opt out: adssettings.google.com
6.4 Google Search Console
We use Google Search Console to monitor how our website performs in Google search results. This tool does not collect personal information about individual visitors.
6.5 Meta Pixel and Conversions API
We use the Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel) to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram. The Pixel may collect information such as pages visited, actions taken, and device information, and may match this data to your Facebook or Instagram account if you are logged in.
We also use the Meta Conversions API, which sends information to Meta directly from our servers in two situations: when you submit our enquiry form with the consent box ticked, and when you tap one of our phone numbers.
For a form submission, your email address, phone number, first and last name, city and postal code are sent in hashed form. Hashing converts each one into a fixed code that Meta can match against its own records but that does not reveal the original value. Your IP address, your browser details, the address of the page you were on, and the identifiers Meta's own cookies assign to your browser are sent unhashed, because Meta requires them in that form. A phone-number tap sends only the unhashed technical details, not your contact information. Meta uses this to measure and improve the performance of our ads.

6.6 Google Maps Address Suggestions
When you type your address into our enquiry form, the characters you type are sent to Google Maps so it can suggest matching addresses in Alberta. Our service-area map is also provided by Google Maps. Google receives your IP address and browser details when either one loads.

6.7 Cloudflare Turnstile
Our website forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect against spam and automated abuse. Turnstile checks technical signals such as your IP address, browser characteristics, and interaction patterns to confirm you are a real person. It is used only for security and is not used to advertise to you.

6.8 What Is Stored on Your Device
Our own website does not set any cookies of its own. The tools above set their own cookies, for example Google Analytics cookies beginning with _ga and Meta cookies named _fbp and _fbc.
After you send an enquiry, your first name and a reference number are kept in your browser's temporary session storage so our thank-you page can greet you by name and avoid counting the same enquiry twice. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab.
6.9 Managing Cookies
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through browser settings. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of our website.
You can opt out of personalized advertising directly with the platforms we use. For Meta (Facebook and Instagram), adjust your ad preferences. For Google, adjust your ad settings. Essential cookies required for the website to function cannot be disabled.
7. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
7.1 Service Providers
We use trusted third-party service providers to operate our business. These providers only access the information they need to perform their services and are contractually required to protect your data. Service providers we use include:
- Website hosting (Vercel)
- Email delivery for enquiry notifications (Resend)
- A backup copy of each enquiry kept in a Google Sheet (Google)
- Address suggestions and maps (Google Maps)
- Spam protection on our forms (Cloudflare)
- Customer relationship management (CRM) software
- SMS messaging platforms
- Automated messaging and call-answering (voice) assistants
- Analytics and advertising platforms (Google, Meta)
- Payment processing platforms (if applicable)
7.2 Service Partners
Bright West Holiday Lighting and Sure West Roofing share the same owners and the same crew. The crew that installs your lights also carries out the free roof inspection, so your name, property address and any photos taken during the inspection may be handled by both businesses. If you ask us to arrange roofing work as a result, we will pass your contact details to Sure West Roofing with your consent.
7.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety, or the rights, property, or safety of others.
7.4 Business Transfers
If Bright West Holiday Lighting is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change through our website.
8. Data Storage and International Transfers
Your personal information is stored on servers that may be located in Canada or the United States. Our service providers (including Vercel, Resend, Google, Cloudflare and Meta) may store or process data outside of Canada. When personal information is transferred outside of Canada, it may be subject to the laws of the country where it is stored, including lawful access requests by foreign government authorities.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that any service provider handling your information maintains comparable levels of protection.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including to:
- Respond to your enquiries and provide services
- Maintain records for tax, accounting, and legal compliance
- Resolve disputes and enforce agreements
Typical retention periods:

10. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. These include:
- SSL/TLS encryption on all website traffic
- Restricted access to personal information on a need-to-know basis
- Secure third-party service providers
- Regular security reviews
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Withdraw your consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your information (subject to legal or contractual limitations)
- Request information about how your data has been used and shared
- File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at craig@brightwestholiday.ca. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days, as required by law.
12. Children's Privacy
Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18 years of age. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
13. Third-Party Websites
Our website may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the updated policy on our website with a new “Last Updated” date. Significant changes will be communicated through our website or by email where appropriate.
